Muay Thai is by far the most effective striking art in the world. What sets Muay Thai training apart from other martial arts is its emphasis on sparring and competition. While other martial arts are mainly ‘theory’ and ‘combat simulations’ that take place in controlled environments, Muay Thai focuses on developing timing through sparring and fighting.If you are new to the sport, it is difficult to distinguish between a good coach and a bad one. The only warning I have about Chiang Mai is that towards the end of February/March through April, there is the burning season. And the air is practically unbreathable for those two months as the farmers burn their land. You can look this up, but most foreigners leave Chiang Mai in this period because of the air quality.
